01
Photograph the scratch and the whole panel.
Close-ups help show the damage, but a wider image gives the position and extent. Include adjacent panels where the colour or finish may need to be considered.
- Photograph the damage in daylight without glare where possible.
- Mention exposed metal, rust, previous refinishing or peeling paint.
- State whether the panel has a wrap, decals or signwriting.
02
Preparation is part of the repair, not an optional extra.
The condition of the surface determines the preparation needed before refinishing. Paint codes help identify the colour, but age, previous repairs and finish variation may affect the matching approach.
03
Ask what the quote includes.
The agreed scope should explain which panels are being prepared and refinished, any adjacent blending and how trim or signwriting is handled. Panel paint repair does not mean a full van respray is included.
