01
Compatibility comes before the purchase price.
A part from the same make is not necessarily the correct part. Model year, body dimensions, trim, fittings and the exact component specification matter. Condition and safety must be considered before a part is recommended.
02
Include preparation and fitting in the comparison.
A reclaimed panel may still need cleaning, preparation, refinishing, transfer of fittings and adjustment. Compare the complete fitted repair rather than just the component price.
- Confirm the exact part and the van specification.
- Ask what condition checks and preparation are included.
- Clarify paintwork, fittings, availability and any alternatives.
03
Know when a different approach is needed.
Reclaimed parts are not suitable for every repair. Safety-critical damage, condition concerns or incompatibility may mean new parts or another repair method are necessary. No saving should come at the expense of an appropriate repair.
