SPECIALIST VAN BODYWORK. A REPAIR-FIRST APPROACH. Owner-drivers & fleets

BETTER PHOTOS. A CLEARER FIRST ASSESSMENT.

How to photograph van damage for a quote.

Clear photos help explain the damage before an inspection. Take them only where it is safe to stand, and do not move loose parts or attempt to open a damaged door for a better angle.

Photos support an initial assessment. Inspection may be needed to confirm the repair and price.

01

Start wide, then move closer.

Include the whole side, front or rear of the van so the damaged panel is easy to identify. Follow with a medium-distance photo and detailed close-ups. Angled images can show dents that disappear in a straight-on picture.

  • Use daylight and avoid strong reflections or heavy shadows.
  • Include panel edges, neighbouring gaps and visible fittings.
  • Photograph any existing marks nearby so they are not confused with the new damage.

02

Add the details photos cannot explain.

Include registration, postcode, van body specification and a plain description of what happened. Say whether doors open, parts are loose, warnings appeared or the van cannot be driven. Mention lining, wraps, conversions and fitted equipment.

03

An image is not a safety inspection.

Photos cannot reliably reveal everything behind a bumper, inside a door or under a damaged panel. A physical inspection may still be needed. Do not drive the vehicle if you are concerned about its safety or roadworthiness.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Your questions.
Clear answers.

How many photos should I prepare?

Aim for an overall view, a medium-distance view and close-ups from useful angles. Include all affected panels without taking photos in an unsafe position.

Should I remove trim to show the damage?

No. Do not dismantle the van or disturb damaged components to take photos. Explain anything you cannot photograph safely.
